Cramming 101: Foundations of Cramming

I woke up at around 7.30 am, when Ruel sent a text message saying they've (him and his family) just finished hearing mass in Antipolo Church. Although the church isn't that near to our place, I still feel that I should've heard mass with them. Imagine travelling all the way here from their place in Caloocan (the farther one) just to hear mass, and there I was, still in bed, with almost no energy to wink an eye.

I just finished making my to-do list. I do it every Sunday. And everything I list there, I intend to finish in one day, Sunday. Yep. So what happened yesterday? Nothing. I just slept, watched TV, went online, attempted (yes I did) to start on work I had in mind, but never got around doing anything. I think it's because in my mind, there's still one more day to do 'em all.

I don't think the people around me understand what it means when I admit how much of a crammer I am. I. Am. REALLY. A. Crammer. I procrastinate then I cram. I'm like a daredevil who tries to challenge death by walking on a rope with a large endless hole underneath. Well, that probably is an exaggeration, still.

I probably got this outstanding work behavior when I was in highschool. I don't think I was born like this. I remember vividly, back in highschool, I had parasite classmates and schoolmates (keyword: and) who always come by my classroom or even at home to beg for me to help them (Note: help means I do it, and they thank me afterwards) make their written reports and projects of all sorts. And they usually ask me to do them projects/reports at least 2 days before the deadline (because they probably attempted to make them on their own but failed to). And they come in big numbers (7 people would be a minimum number). And yes, I never said NO. I never disagreed. I spend sleepless nights finishing everything. And yes, I finish everything, and none gets a failing mark. Back then, I thought that doing that meant helping them. I probably helped them pass, but I never helped them learn.

That was the past, and now, as I look back, I think it had some effect on me as well. I've learned to cram. I can no longer start working on something unless it's due within 48 hours. And believe me, cramming is prolly the hardest thing to do, at least for me, but it's in cramming that I get to create, deliver and do a better job (and yes, once upon a time in my life, I tried hard not to cram, and all I made was something I'd revise at 24 hours before the due date).

Now, I have 8 things on my to-do list. And again, I intend to finish them all today. I'm not sure how far will my cramming take me, because so far, reaching this point in my life, it hasn't failed me yet, except maybe for the lack of sleep, colds, cough, headache, back pain and butt pain (for sitting too long in front of the computer) which I know will disappear after several days of relaxation.

Well, I guess that's all I can say. Back to cramming mode. :)

It's time.

I've been thinking about talking to her, but I haven't got any clue when the right time would be. I miss her as a friend, yes, but I get hurt and frustrated and sad and upset (and all the synonyms of those words I just said) when I see her perform. It must be my fault too, somehow, because I let friendship go overboard that she probably felt everything she does is okay. Sure, I appreciate her telling me how thankful she is with everything I do for her and everything she learns from me, but I can't always show her what to do and she can't just always digest them. She has to apply what she's learned.
However, I came across my horoscope early this morning:

Is this really it? Is this really the right time? I've actually been considering talking to her yesterday but I guess I wasn't ready yet. I hope, and if the gods conspire to bring me to that situation, I'll be able to say the things I want to say (for the second time) and I hope this time she takes everything really seriously.

Well, back to work.

I'm at home, drowning myself into making exams for my students and our report for gradclass. I really hope I finish everything today. If I do, then this might be the first time I did something that's not out of cramming, since the report won't be until next Tuesday. Well, maybe not, since the exams I'm making are scheduled for tomorrow. Rawr.

Justice For Cris? Depends which justice is available.

I feel sorry for the death of Cris Mendez, a (would have been) graduating Public Ad student from UP Diliman. He was killed due to hazing, I think last week, and until now, the people involved (those who took him to the hospital and the doctor who signed that he died of something else and not due to hazing) are missing in action. I read articles about him, even a blog entry written by his friend, plus I got to view his Friendster Profile, and based from those, Cris seemed a very friendly person, someone who's very approachable and nice. I knew a lot of people mourned. I feel sorry for his family. I read that he lost his father and I'm sure he's being highly relied on to improve his family's way of living. At 20, he's still very young and I know he had lots of plans for himself. That's probably the reason why he decided to join a fraternity. What puzzles me so much is why didn't these intelligent (I'm being sarcastic) fratmen know when to stop the hazing? Though I have never witnessed an actual hazing, I'm sure I can, and anyone can, identify when a person's too weak to proceed with the hazing. What more if you've been hazing thousands of people every year? I can just imagine them still kicking Cris, paddling him continuously, while he lay there, motionless, unresponding. They said that the frat who killed him traces their roots from the UP College of Law.Well, that's law and justice for you. Your own justice, your own law, killing you. Your future leaders, future politicians, future lawyers, future judges...Perfect.

I'm sure nobody in that fraternity will come out and confess or claim responsibility. I know a lot of people who are members of fraternities (including THAT fraternity) and I know that one of the things they swore to their peace-loving brotherhood is to always stand up for each other no matter what. There you go. They are standing up for each other, especially on the no matter what part. Damn, I wonder if these people can ever sleep at night. But wait, forgive me. I'm sure they can, because I'm sure it's not the first time this has happened, and I'm sure that they know that they will eventually get away with this. I just came across their website, and read their motto/slogan/whatever, and it says something about the true test of being a member of their fraternity is not individual greatness, but in not leaving any member in disgrace. That explains it.
